Black Girls Cook (BGC) is a non-profit organization that teaches inner-city adolescent girls of color the true meaning of farm-to-table by operating hands on cooking classes and growing edible gardens.

There are several Kwanzaa principles that speaks to the mission of Black Girls Cook. Umoja represents the unifying of girls from various neighborhoods and upbringings to share a safe space to achieve a common goal. Kujichagulia represents the life-skills sessions that empowers the girls to participate in self-actualization projects. Kuumba represents the “thinking outside of the box” approach the BGC girls have when they create their own recipes.
