Baltimore nonprofit boosts Black-led organizations through fundraising campaign, scavenger hunt

Baltimore Business Journal – CLLCTIVLY, a Baltimore-based nonprofit, helped raise over $100,000 for Black-owned social change organizations during its third-annual fundraising campaign, doubling its efforts from the day of giving last year.

Fifty local nonprofits participated in the 24-hour long initiative on Aug. 6 called CLLCTIVGIVE, which rallied financial support for Black-led organizations through social media posts and direct outreach in honor of Black Philanthropy Month and National Black Business Month. Donors directed their contributions towards their preferred organization, and CLLCTIVLY awarded top fundraising groups with cash prizes.

CLLCTIVLY also launched its inaugural Black Business Quest, a scavenger hunt leading up to the fundraising event which sent participating nonprofit members and other individuals to locations around Baltimore to help increase exposure for local Black-owned businesses. Those who completed a certain number of tasks had the opportunity to win cash prizes.

In 2019, Black-led philanthropic organizations received 24% less in revenue than white-led organizations, according to a report by Echoing Green. But last week’s initiative helped some organizations bring in additional capital after the pandemic lull. Read Full Article
