My work has always been grounded in justice, integrity, accountability, and love for my community. Justice, not as a slogan, but as a discipline. Integrity, not as convenience, but as commitment. Accountability, not only for institutions, but for ourselves. And love — because without love for people, policy becomes performance. At the Walter P. Carter Institute, those same values guide our work. We believe leadership is stewardship. We believe public service is sacred. And we believe legacy carries responsibility. My values require me to listen before I speak and to serve before I lead. Engagement is not transactional. It is relational. It means showing up consistently, even when there is no spotlight. It means telling the truth, even when it is uncomfortable. It means protecting people who may not have the power to protect themselves. Through the Walter P. Carter Institute, we create spaces where intergenerational dialogue can occur with honesty and respect. We do not chase noise. We build substance. We engage the community as partners, not as spectators. When your values are rooted in justice and dignity, you do not perform for the community. You stand with the community. I hope to see a Baltimore where leadership is principled, not performative. Where young people understand their power. Where legacy is not simply inherited but honored through service. I want to see institutions that reflect the people they serve. I want to see civic participation treated as a duty, not an afterthought. I want to see our daughters and sons understand that their names carry both history and obligation. My values demand that we move beyond symbolism and toward structure — beyond moments and toward movements. The Walter P. Carter Institute exists to cultivate leaders who are grounded, disciplined, and community-centered. If we build leaders with moral courage, the systems will follow. Baltimore does not lack talent. It requires alignment, accountability, and leadership rooted in something deeper than ambition. That is the change I work toward.
